Archie Ramos
High School Basketball
The impetus for Archie’s stellar coaching career traces its roots to his excellence on the basketball court as a player under the watchful eye and mentorship of the late Bill Groogan.
Archie returned to coach at his alma mater, J.W. Nixon High School, four years after his high school graduation. He spent the next 22 seasons leading the Mustangs to success.
In 2007, Archie transitioned to lead the Laredo United Longhorn basketball program, where he coached until his retirement in 2024.
During his 33 years as a head boys basketball coach, Archie led his teams to a combined 730 wins, 21 district championships, 17 bi-district championships, 15 area championships, 14 regional quarterfinal appearances, eight Sweet 16 appearances, and one Elite 8 appearance.
Archie received numerous Coach of the Year awards throughout his career and was selected to coach in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game.
A devout Roman Catholic, Archie has been married to Delma Denise for 39 years. They are the proud parents of Delma Denise and Arcaido Ramos Jr., as well as daughter-in-law Aleera, and grandparents to Analeah Maria Ramos and Arcaido Joaquin Ramos III.
