Diana Lerma
High School Volleyball
Head Volleyball Coach Diana Lerma's induction into Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame reflects her outstanding contributions to sports and unparalleled dedication to volleyball in the Rio Grande Valley.
Coach Lerma’s career is nothing short of legendary with more than 800 career victories, 18 district titles, 17 Bi-district titles, 11 area titles and four Sweet 16 appearances.
She is also one of seven remarkable individuals who will be officially inducted at the 37th annual RGV Sports Hall of Fame Banquet in June 28 at the Harlingen Convention Center. Coach Lerma’s tireless commitment to excellence has inspired countless athletes on and off the court. In recognition of her success and impact, the City of Mission officially designated November 22, 2024 as Coach Diana Lerma Day.
Coach Lerma graduated in 1981 from Mission High School and her success on the court earned her a volleyball scholarship to Laredo Junior College, where she dominated. There, she garnered the attention of Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University. She was named to the Southland All-Conference team and held the serving ace record for ten years.
She followed in the footsteps of her three sisters Leticia Ibarra, Dr. Sonia Treviño and Gloria Treviño, who all played collegiate volleyball on scholarship.
And the true highlight of Coach Lerma’s career was coaching her three daughters, Sonia, Gabby and Kassandra, who followed the Treviño family’s legacy of earning collegiate volleyball scholarships.
