Luciano "Butch" Flores
High School Baseball
Luciano “Butch” Flores played baseball and graduated from Martin High School in 1966. He earned his collegiate degree from Pan American University in 1971.Butch started coaching soon thereafter and in 1982 took the helm of varsity baseball head coach at J.W. Nixon High School, dedicating 30-years to this vocation of crafting and mentoring young men and women.
He spent a brilliant 19 years at the helm of Nixon baseball, winning 351 games and securing three district titles in 1990, 1991 and 2000. Upon becoming the assistant Athletic Director for Laredo Independent School District in the fall of 2001, his beloved Mustang baseball would not return to the post-season for more than 20-years.
For his success on the diamond Butch was selected as the Laredo Morning Times Coach of The Year in 1984 and in 2000 was selected to coach the prestigious Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game.
He retired from LISD in 2004. Most recently, Butch was inducted into the South Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2011. He has remained active since, serving for two decades as a member of the Border Olympics Board of Directors and as the co-director of the renown Whataburger of Alice Border Olympics baseball tournament.
Butch married the love of his life Bertha, who passed away in 2019, and is the father to Jessica D. and Luciano, Jr as well as two grandchildren Sophia and Isabella.
