1993 12U Regional Tournament
2009 12U Regional Tournament
2013 Little League 16U World Series Finals
Born and raised in Laredo, graduated from United High School in 1994 and played baseball for the Longhorns. Living next door to Rangel Field, the sound of the crack of the bat drew Armando to America’s Pastime and joined Del Mar Little League at age five. Armando played baseball throughout his formative years and his career culminated with the Longhorns reaching the UIL Regional Tournament in 1993 and 1994. Armando ventured into coaching baseball in 2008 as an assistant in Del Mar’s Little League 12u team, which in 2009 qualified for the state championship in Waco.
The following year, Armando joined the fledgling Laredo Pony League (12u & 13u) where he was selected as the head coach for the Laredo All-Stars. Armando led his team to back-to-back appearances in the Pony League World Series in 2011 and 2012. Looking for a new challenge, Armando returned to Little League in 2013 to coach the 16u team.
Armando’s success continued as he led the team to the Little League World Series Tournament in Bangor, Maine. Of the 80,000 teams, the Laredo All-Stars ranked among a select few to reach the World Series finals. Armando’s success on the diamond led to a coaching opportunity in 2016 with St. Augustine High School, where he assisted Knight’s Head Coach Mario Garcia.
Under the tutelage of Garcia and Rodriguez, the Knight baseball team made school history by qualifying three continuous seasons for the playoffs. After six seasons with St. Augustine and more than a decade of mentoring countless young men, Armando heard the calling to return home and coach Armando D. Rodriguez, II, known affectionately as Mandito. Armando led the Laredo Pony League 7u to the inaugural State Championship after overcoming a game one loss by winning six consecutive games en route to the title. More recently, Armando was selected to coach at the University of Texas Summer Baseball Camp last August—a reflection of his dedication and success. Armando is married to Selina M. Rodriguez and together they have three children—Tanni, Andrea and Mandito. Armando also manages his successful construction company, A-Rod Constrwtion, Inc.
