HUMBERTO ADAME

Humberto started his track career while a Sophomore at Martin High under Coach
Alfonso Valls. During his Junior year, he started winning the mile run in different meets
in South Texas and was invited to Regional Competition in Kingsville and placed fourth .
In 1955, Adame journeyed to Austin and competed in the State Cross-Country meet.
He ran against 150 runners from throughout the state. He was crowned State Champion
winning the meet in 9:44.5 a full 10 seconds off the state record time. During the 1956
track season, Adame won high school meets and broke the Border Olympics mile run
record. University of Texas legendary track Coach Clyde Littlefield and Assistant
T. J. "Froggie" Lovvorn recruited him on a track scholarship. Adame helped the
Longhorns win some intersectional track meets while at the Un iversity. He is married
to the former Dora Moreno.
