Tall and talented "Coco" led Zapata High School to District and Regional Titles.
His 1967 team reached the Class "A" State Tournament before losing to much taller
opponents. He is one of the best cagers to come out of South Texas.
He was picked to the 1967 Class "A" All -State first team and was All State Tournament.
He played for the South in the July Basketball Classic.
Villarreal was a member of the Texas Christian University Cage Team that was
Southwest Conference Champions in 1971 . Notre Dame and All-American Austin Carr
defeated them in the Regional. That same year, he won honorable mention in the AIISWC
Dream Team.
