THE MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM
TEXAS SCHOOLBOY "AAAA" CHAMPIONS - 1955-56

Laredo's first and only Schoolboy State Championship Team was the initial inductee into the International Hall of Fame. The
1956 Tigers, dubbed by State Tourney Sportswriters "The Rabbit-Runners of the Border" was one of the shortest teams ever to win the
coveted tourney. The Tigers topped Houston Milby 65 - 53 to enter the finals. The fast-breaking, sharp-shooting Red and White Bengals
stunned North Dallas High , with its 6'-9", 6'-8" and 6'-7" players, 66 - 54 before 10 ,000 screaming fans to win the title. Tiger Coach
Bill Batey was picked 1956 Texas Prep Basketball Coach -Of-The-Y ea r. Phillip Trammel was chosen All-State and to play in the N-orth South
All-Star Game. Play-maker and Captain Andy Santos was selected to the All-State Tourney Five.
