Legendary Mexican League baseball player Hector Espino, known as the "Babe Ruth" of the Mexican and Pacific Coast Leagues, retired as an active player in 1984. His brilliant career started in 1962 with the Monterrey Sultanes. He played a total of 23 seasons in the Mexican League during the summer and another 23 during the summer and another 23 during the winter in the Pacific Coast League. "El Nino asesino," as he was known in his early years, is presently the all-time Mexican League home run hitter. He won 13 batting titles: six in the Mexican League and seven in the Mexican Pacific Coast League. Espino had a lifetime batting average of .335 in the Mexican League and .330 during the winter. He cracked 435 homers during the summer and 310 in the winter. He collected 4,617 hits, including 2. 752 in the Mexican League and 1,865 in the Pacific Coast League. Espino was inducted into the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame league career was played with Hermosillo. The Hermosillo ballpark is named in his honor Hector Espino Stadium. Espino, after his retirement in 1988, managed the Monterrey Sultanes and the Industriales.
