"He was the epitome of conditioning...A most intense and outstanding athlete,"said Coach Bill Batey, as he paid tribute to the star athlete. "Pound for pound and inch for inch there was none better," added the Coach. Molina, a 5'-31/2", 140 pound Mighty Mite, thrilled Laredo cage fans with his defensive ball hawking and scoring ability in a sport dominated by big men.Chalo was the leading scorer in the Laredo Boys' Club Team that captured the 1956 Boys' Club State Tournament in Dallas. They played in the 15-Year-Oid Division. Molina played for Batey when basketball was King in Laredo. His Senior year was 1959. That season, the diminitive Dandy was the leader on a team that went to the class"AAAA" Championships in Austin. The team won Fourth Place and ended winning 29 games. Chalo passed away in October 1970. He will always be remembered by Laredo cage fans. The Laredo Latin-American basketball Association is proud to dedicate its 1977 Basketball Tournament and at the same time induct him into its HALL-OF-FAME, Gonzalo "Chalo" Molina, one of ours.
